Education is a core component of the Meraux Foundation’s strategy for improving St. Bernard Parish, and it is incorporated in virtually every one of the Foundation’s programs.
Each year, the Meraux Foundation awards scholarships to St. Bernard Parish Public School Students, including 50 scholarships based on academic achievement, four based on artistic accomplishment, and six for vocational school. To date, the Foundation has awarded more than 720 scholarships valued at some $2.2 million.
In addition to arts scholarships, the Meraux Foundation donated $1.8 million to develop the Cultural Arts Center of Chalmette High School, a world-class theatre that hosts Broadway-caliber productions. To ensure the “show goes on,” the Foundation sponsors the St. Bernard Performing Arts Academy’s annual productions.
The Meraux Foundation supports scores of educational programs, like the Mississippi River Delta Institute and LSU’s AgMagic on the River, which engage thousands of people annually.
The Meraux Foundation donated land to St. Bernard Parish Public Schools for the Arlene Meraux Elementary School, where generations of school children will receive a quality education.
