Meraux Foundation Donates Land for Sheriff’s Office Sub-station

Paris Rd. Land to Serve as Key Location to Stop Crime

The Meraux Foundation, through Meraux Land Development LLC, announced today that it has donated a plot of land at 4700 Paris Road in Chalmette to the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office for the site of a new sub-station.
The donation of the land is part of the Meraux Foundation’s strategy to use its land holdings for the lasting improvement of St. Bernard.
“We are happy to donate this land to the Sheriff’s Office to help make our community safer and stronger,” said Rita Gue the president of the Meraux Foundation. “We give land for projects that add value to the property, have long-term effects, and improve the parish; this new sub-station meets all our criteria.”
The sub-station’s location is ideal because it allows the Sheriff’s Office to monitor traffic entering and exiting the Parish.
“We are very thankful for the land that the Meraux Foundation has given to the community,” said Sheriff Jimmy Polhmann. “The new sub-station will serve as an important resource for making the Parish safe, and it will allow us to significantly curb illegal activity.”
The Sheriff’s Office sub-station land is the latest property that the Meraux Foundation has dedicated to charitable purposes. Some of the Foundation’s notable land contributions include sites for the Meraux Foundation Living History Commemorative Park, Docville Farm, the library, the animal shelter, and the new hospital. These donations have saved the Parish some tens of millions dollars that it would have spent if it had to buy the land.
“Whether it’s donating land to create a bike path in Violet or to build a hospital in Chalmette, the Meraux Foundation is strengthening the quality of life here in St. Bernard,” Gue continued.
