Meraux Foundation Hosts Event on Coastal Master Plan

St. Bernard Residents Learn and Offer Feedback on State Plan

The Arlene and Joseph Meraux Charitable Foundation partnered with the Greater New Orleans Foundation and Restore the Mississippi River Delta to host Community Conversations at Docville Farm on Tuesday evening. At the event, the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) updated nearly 100 area residents on the State’s master plan and received valuable input and feedback that will be used in developing the draft plan that will be released in January 2017 for formal public comment and review.

“St. Bernard Parish is on the front line of the war against coastal land loss, and it is important that the people who live here are part of the conversation about how we protect our community,” said Bill Haines, a board member of the Meraux Foundation. “The Meraux Foundation was pleased to host the event at our Docville Farm campus, and we are grateful for those who attended, our co-sponsors, and the CPRA.”

Haines continued, “We established Docville Farm as a place where people could gather, exchange ideas, and work together to improve our community; and this event was a shining example of that purpose.”

One of the main pillars of the Meraux Foundation’s programs is environmental stewardship, and its initiatives include plantings, coalition building, and a number of education and awareness programs.

In addition to the customary functions of foundations, the Meraux Foundation manages, maintains, and preserves extensive and diverse landholdings. Each type of land poses complex and often delicate challenges in its preservation, protection, and use, but the Foundation aims to maximize both short- and long-term benefits for the community and ecosystem.
