Meraux’s Blaise Pezold Receives Coastal Stewardship Award

The Arlene and Joseph Meraux Charitable Foundation proudly announces that Blaise Pezold, the Foundation’s Coastal and Environmental Program Director, has been honored with the 2024 Coastal Stewardship Award by the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL).

Blaise Pezold has been instrumental in advancing the Meraux Foundation's mission to improve the quality of life in St. Bernard Parish through the preservation, protection, and restoration of the area's natural environment. His work encompasses field projects, strategic partnerships, community engagement, and public awareness, all aimed at preserving and restoring Louisiana’s vulnerable coast.

"We are incredibly proud of Blaise's accomplishments and his unwavering commitment to our coastal environment," said Rita Gue, President of the Meraux Foundation. "This award is a testament to his hard work and dedication to creating a sustainable future for St. Bernard Parish."

Pezold received this prestigious award for his exemplary leadership and dedication to coastal Louisiana. He has designed projects under the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection, and Restoration Act (CWPPRA), with his latest project being the Wood Lake Marsh Creation just north of Delacroix, La. His efforts also include the Chandeleur Sound Living Shoreline initiative, the formation of the Central Wetlands Reforestation Collective, and the Chalmette High School 4H Black Mangrove Program.

“I view this recognition as a team win for the Meraux Foundation, St. Bernard, and all our collaborators,” said Pezold. “I’m grateful to be part of such a mission driven organization and to work with so many strong partners.”

In his role, Pezold serves as a vital liaison for the Meraux Foundation on coastal matters between nonprofits, government entities, and strategic partners. His work has significantly raised public awareness and involvement in coastal stewardship, demonstrating his commitment to protecting and preserving Louisiana’s unique coastal environment.
