WYES Presents President’s Award to the Meraux Foundation

WYES presented the “Presidents Award” to the Meraux Foundation in recognition of the nonprofit’s support of the station’s coverage of the New Orleans tricentennial celebration.

Made possible through the support of the Meraux Foundation, a documentary, “New Orleans: The First 300 Years” premiered on WYES in 2017 and is narrated by actor John Goodman. According to WYES, “Rare photos and films illustrate a city that began and continues to be a mix of cultures. The program spotlights the early days of the celebration of Carnival and also focuses on the city’s music and political history.”

The Meraux Foundation also sponsored WYES’ electronic fieldtrips, hour-long interactive lesson delivered directly to students across the country through a streamed webcast, as well as Tricentennial Moments, educational videos that focus on various aspects of New Orleans’ 300-year history.
