Nonprofit hones strategy to improve quality of life in St. Bernard Parish

Blaise Pezold gazed out of his office window at a massive cargo ship plying downriver, eclipsing the entire wall-to-wall span of glass in the aptly-named Arlene Meraux River Observation Center.

Teachers meandered through the gardens, learning from experts about how smart landscape design can help manage stormwater and improve water quality.

Kids and adults alike came out to experience the fun at the fifth annual AgMagic on the River from May 8-12 at the Meraux Foundation’s Docville Farm in Violet. Thanks to a partnership between the Meraux Foundation and LSU’s AgCenter, the hands-on event is free for schools and the public.

Meraux Foundation and St. Bernard Economic Development Foundation partner to support innovation, growth in the Parish

The Arlene and Joseph Meraux Charitable Foundation announced today that it has named Blaise Pezold as Coastal and Environmental Program Manager.

The 5th Annual Blues, Brews and BBQ in da Parish will feature local barbecue masters, breweries, and musicians. The free festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017 from 11 a.m to 6 p.m. at the Meraux Foundation’s Docville Farm (5124 E St Bernard Hwy, Violet, LA 70092).

The Arlene and Joseph Meraux Charitable Foundation recently donated $20,000 to the Community Center of St. Bernard to help feed the hungry in St. Bernard Parish.

On Thursday, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) became a permanent part of the St. Bernard Parish judicial system with the swearing in of six new advocates and a renewed commitment of financial support from the Arlene and Joseph Meraux Charitable Foundation.

Far down near the end of Delacroix Highway, dozens of proud parish residents gathered on Thursday to celebrate the opening of a new pier that was made possible through a generous donation of land by the Arlene and Joseph Meraux Charitable Foundation.
