1,000 black mangrove plants planted in Biloxi Marsh

A group of volunteers from various agencies and businesses, including the Meraux Foundation, planted 1,000 black mangrove trees in the eastern Biloxi Marsh. St. Bernard Parish Government’s Coastal Department purchased 200 plants and received 500 plants from Nicholls State University and 300 from Low Tide Charters. The group is collecting and potting an additional 1,500 black mangrove propagules to be in October and also raising 1,500 black mangrove seedlings at Chalmette High School that will be planted in spring, 2018.
