Meraux Foundation Announces 2014 Scholarship Recipients

$1.5 Million Awarded to St. Bernard Parish Students

The Meraux Foundation awarded scholarships to 58 St. Bernard Parish high school seniors as part of its annual scholarship program. To date, the Foundation has granted more than 550 scholarships valued at some $1.5 million.

“Supporting St. Bernard’s children is an important investment in the future of our community,” said Rita Gue, the president of the Meraux Foundation. “Our hope is that students receive education and training to help prepare them for life.”

In addition to 50 academic scholarships, six students received scholarships for vocational school, and for the first time, the Meraux Foundation awarded two scholarships for the fine arts.

“The Meraux Foundation Scholarship program isn’t simply charity, it’s a long-term economic development strategy that is helping to grow the next generation of leaders of St. Bernard,” said Charles Cassar, coordinator of cultural arts for St. Bernard Parish Schools. “This is just one of the Meraux Foundation’s many contributions to our support our youth; the Foundation has made the state-of-the-art Chalmette High School Cultural Arts Center possible and is a major supporter of the annual “Glitter and Gloves” musical production.
