Meraux Foundation Hosts AgMagic on the River
Families were able to see, touch and experience all things Louisiana agriculture at the Meraux Foundation’s Docville Farm!
The Meraux Foundation partnered with LSU’s AgCenter to hold the third annual AgMagic educational event, which took place May 4 – 7. In addition to three days of scheduled school group tours, over 700 people took advantage of the fun at AgMagic.
AgMagic is one of the premier events held at the Foundation’s Docville Farm. Attendees were able to handle the live animals, learn about watersheds and coastal restoration, and even see a demonstration crawfish pond.
While AgMagic had taken place in Baton Rouge for over a decade, the Meraux Foundation’s Docville Farm partnered with LSU’s AgCenter in 2014 to bring the ag fun down the Mississippi River. AgMagic services Jefferson, Orleans, St. Charles, St. John, St. Bernard and Plaquemines parishes, and the four-day event provides “edutainment” for those of all ages.
The goal of AgMagic is to teach grade school students all about the environment and agriculture of our communities. The interactive journey is designed for third through sixth graders, and takes them through the important roles Louisiana’s forests, soils, crops, seafood and livestock have in our everyday lives.
Event organizers with the Meraux Foundation and LSU’s AgCenter are already planning next year’s AgMagic on the River. To learn more about the magic of Docville Farms, visit https://merauxfoundation.org/docville-farm/.
